Xibalbá (2017)

Xibalbá, for three choirs and wind orchestra, was commissioned by Jesús Ortega and premiered in November 2017 in Caravaca de la Cruz, as part of the celebrations of the Holy Year. The three choirs participating in the premiere were Diatessaron, Orpheus Music and Coro Arsis, conducted by Jesús Ortega.

Its cornerstone is the Mayan representation of the underworld and the path that the souls have to walk to reach it. It was performed in a church with very special acoustic qualities, and the choirs and musicians surrounded the audience for a completely immersive experience.
