Hengitetään (2021)

Hengitetään, for double choir and participatory audience, was commissioned by Ruamjai and premiered online in July 2021.

The dramaturgical structure of the piece is a result of the sonification of the data related to the daily number of infected people in Finland during the COVID-19 pandemic until mid-April 2021. It expresses the duality of the breath as a soothing and nerve-wracking biological function. By breathing together with the audience and developing that breath into a living and evolving organism, the choir proposes an immersive experience where the audience performs an integral part of the piece.
